Americans, and especially Christians, should stand firmly with Israel and publicly reject the disinformation campaign directed against her. That position has become politically unfashionable, and many fear social or economic repercussions—particularly among those pressured to remain aligned with the contemporary left. Proverbs 29:25 warns that “the fear of man bringeth forth a snare,” an admonition relevant whenever fear discourages a person from defending what is right.

The political arena may offer little hope of resolving this dispute because too many Christians do not read the Bible, do not know how to read it, do not understand what they read, or have not been taught it properly. That leaves many on the wrong side of the issue or in a state of indifference. Genesis 12:3 and the historical record describe society after society, nation after nation, and ruler after ruler confronting the consequences of their posture toward the Covenant. Studies reporting that most Christians read the Bible only a few times each year help explain why many remain unfamiliar with that history.

Many Christians remain unfamiliar with both the Covenant the LORD made with Abram—later Abraham—and the history of Israel, the Jewish people, and the nations that have dealt with them. This unfamiliarity leaves Christians vulnerable to the “social gospel.” The “social gospel” is not congruent with the Gospel of Jesus Christ or the Word of the LORD. The distinction does not arise because Christ or Christians reject justice and care for those in need, but because the modern political form of the social gospel has often relied upon deception, ulterior motives, and a spirit of division.

Hosea identifies ignorance as a root cause of destruction, especially among God’s people:
